Why organic? Why dried?

How is the freeze/drum drying process more nutritionally valuable than the jarred/canning process traditionally used for baby foods? Freeze and drum drying methods are nutritionally superior over canning in two ways: 1) the preservation of nutrients and phytochemicals, and 2) higher sensory quality of food. With the freeze/drum drying processes, there is less heat exposure to foods and consequently higher preservation of nutrients and phytochemicals. Freeze/drum dried foods look better and taste fresher.

What is the importance of feeding organic ingredients to infants? For one, pesticides are widely used on conventional food crops, because pesticides are toxic by design, they can cause harm to humans. Exposure to pesticides over time has been linked to a variety of chronic health problems including: neurological damage, hormone and reproductive problems, and some cancers. Infants are especially vulnerable to the harmful effects of pesticides due to their small body size, immature organ systems and rapidly growing brains. Feeding your child organic foods, which are grown without the use of pesticides is a smart way to provide wholesome nutrition without the harm of synthetic influences.

Is it kosher?

All of our products are kosher-certified.

Is it gluten free?

All of our products are gluten free, with the exception of our NurturMeals sweet potato-oatmeal-banana blend.

Is your packaging BPA free?

Yes, it is! Our packages do not contain BPA.

Are all of these products 100% GMO-free?

Yes, all of our products are Non-GMO certified. All of our cleaning procedures following GMPs for sanitation.

I’ve noticed the new bags of Organic Quinoa Baby Cereals are darker in color and mix differently than the NurturMeals Protein-packed Quinoa. Why is that?

The reason for the difference is that our new organic quinoa cereals are fortified with plant-based nutrients. The earthly color is largely due to the organic iron, which is derived from curry leaves. Plant based nutrients are optimal for baby’s digestion and absorption of the nutrients.

Why do some of NurturMeals flavors contain sub-ingredients like maltodextrin and rice flour?

Those sub-ingredients are binding agents that are used in the drum drying process. They are also commonly used in other organic baby foods and formulas. They are all certified organic and non-GMO.

What is the drying method used on your product?

Some of our flavors are freeze dried and others are drum dried. Our Yum-a-Roo’s are freeze dried, which involves no heat application at all. Most of our NurturMeals flavors are drum dried, which involves the fruits & veggies first being ground to a puree form, flash cooked with minimal heat application, then air dried on large drums. The end result is yummy, healthy, pure fruits and vegetables in powder form that easily mix with liquid (even breastmilk!) to create an infant puree.

Where can I find the expiry info on your packaging?

The “enjoy by” date can be found: embossed on the sides of our NurturMeals pouches, printed on the bottom of NurturMeals boxes, and printed on the back of our Yum-a-Roo’s and Quinoa cereals bags. The enjoy by date means the food is best consumed by that date from a quality and freshness standpoint, but not that it is unsafe or inedible after that time. Use your discretion or consult with your pediatrician if you are considering using the foods after their printed enjoy by dates.

Are your foods allergen-free?

Our packer does not package any peanuts or tree nuts within their facility. They have an allergen policy which states how to segregate and handle the allergens which are within the facility (i.e. milk, soy, and wheat).  With every allergen production sanitation cycle, they perform allergen swab testing to confirm the absence of any allergen prior to product change.

At what age is it appropriate to start feeding your foods?

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends starting infants on solid foods starting at 6 months of age. Our quinoa cereals are a nutritionally-superior first food for your little one to start with. From there, s/he can progress onto our single-ingredient fruits and veggie NurturMeals, which yield 2.5 oz servings when prepared with liquid. Infants 6-8 months of age might enjoy these foods, then they can progress onto our blended NurturMeals flavors, which yield 4 oz servings and include more than one ingredient – i.e. squash/banana/kale – from the age of about 8 months and up. Once your little one outgrows pureed foods altogether, our NurturMeals are great to use as “mix ins” with foods like mac’n cheese, pancakes, and yogurts – to help give toddler foods a nutritional boost! In addition, once your little one has moved into toddlerhood (one year and up), s/he can begin to enjoy our healthy Yum-a-Roo’s snacks!
